Overview

Childbearing is an exciting and often frightening for expectant mothers. Even the healthiest of women need occasional visits to the doctor during a pregnancy, and obstetric nurses assist with their care. Obstetric nurses focus primarily on the health of expectant mothers and their infants, from pre-conception to immediatelyafter the birth. They may be involved in fertility or family counselling, provide routine or emergency care during a pregnancy, and play a supporting role in the actual delivery. They’re trained to assess whether there are special risks involved in a pregnancy, and to provide foetal monitoring services as needed. They’re familiar with the stages of labour, and can help physicians recognize the symptoms of delivery-related complications. They also educate new mothers on the care and feeding of their infants, and adjustments they’ll need to make when they take their babies home. We the maternity department prepares the nurses with 6 c’s as caring, compassionate, committed, courageous, curious with excellent communication.

Eligibility

The minimum education requirements shall be the passing of B.Sc Nursing / B.Sc. Hons. Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc Nursing with minimum of 55% aggregate marks and the studied institution should be recognized by INC, one year prior teaching experience after issue of provisional certificate and from the date of registration in any of the state council in the country and incase of non- tamilnadu candidates they have to produce either the provisional registration or the receipt of the acknowledgement of the provisional registration of the tamilnadu nurses and midwives council Chennai. For students after Management Quota, Candidate should undertake the common Entrance Test.
