Overview
It is a post graduate full time 2 year programme spreading over 4 semesters which aims to provide the student with specialised skill sets in different fields like Microbiology, Biochemistry, Cell biology, Immunology, Genetics, Molecular biology, Cell culture techniques (Animal and Plant tissue culture), Genetic engineering, Analytical techniques, Fermentation, Environmental biotechnology, Agricultural biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics and Intellectual property. The programme is designed in a way to enable the student to know about the latest technologies in order to be oriented towards biotechnological research and industry
The programme has been designed to offer eligible candidates specialization in a wide range of practical skills, while at the same time build competence in many areas of biotechnology. Entire fourth semester is dedicated to a research project in a reputed research organization and industry to ensure that the student is able to understand the finer points of research and development of processes.

Eligibility
The learners who have either passed Bachelor’s Degree Examination of University of Mumbai in Science/Technology or equivalent Degree of any other University recognized as equivalent thereto with the Life Sciences, Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Agriculture/Fisheries Sciences/ Veterinary Sciences, Bioinformatics, Applied or other Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Food Technology or other allied biological subjects as Major and Ancillary Subjects are eligible for MSc Biotechnology

Admission Process:
- Interim Admission i.e. Phase 1 of the admission process is the phase before the declaration of result of Semester VI or equivalent exam of Bachelor degree.
- Provisional Admission i.e. Phase 2 of the admission process is the phase after the declaration of result of Semester VI or equivalent exam of Bachelor degree.
- Applicants will be considered eligible for Provisional Admission if they have successfully completed their Semester VI or equivalent examination of Bachelor degree with no pending KTs. The selection criteria will be based on the merit of Semester VI final result score.
Interim Admission means a provision to secure the seat on the basis of Semester V final examination results if the applicant is selected as per the admission merit process and completes the required payment of fees. Applicants will be considered eligible for Interim Admission if they have successfully completed their Semester V final examination with no pending KTs. The selection criteria will be based on the merit of Semester V final result score.
Provisional admission indicates that admission is offered to the applicant on the basis of merit of Semester VI or equivalent examination of Bachelor Degree and is provisional in nature until the payment of required fees is made as per the schedule in order to confirm the admission for the concerned programme.
