Master of Science (MSc) in Biotechnology

Candidate should have Bachelor’s degree under 10+2+3 pattern of education in Biological Sciences (Biochemistry/ Applied Biology / Biotechnology/ Botany/Life Science/ Microbiology/ Zoology) with at least four core papers in either of the following topics Genetics and Molecular Biology, Immunology, Microbiology/ Algae/Fungi, Biochemistry, Cytogenetics, Plant and Animal Biotechnology with Chemistry up to SY BSc level.

The course of the M.Sc. Part-I includes areas like Biochemistry, Immunology, Genetics, Cellular processes, Metabolism, Animal Biotechnology, Molecular Biotechnology, Advanced Analytical Techniques and M.Sc. Part-II includes papers on Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, Drug Development, Bioprocess Technology, Environmental Biotechnology and Entrepreneurship, and IPR.

The practical component of the course involves regular lab training in the areas of good laboratory practices, Microbial techniques, Quality control, Proteomics, Computational tools in biology, Biochemistry, Animal cell culture, Molecular Biology, Fermentation, and Bioinformatics. The practical component also includes project-based learning through Internal projects in semester III and External projects in semester IV.

The admissions for M.Sc. Biotechnology (2 years) programme in the Post Graduate Department of Biotechnology, St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Mumbai will be through the Xaviers Entrance Test 2022, henceforth referred as XET.

The admission will be based on the merit list derived using the following weightage:

1. Score obtained in XET -70% weightage.
2. Qualifying BSc examination percentage (SEMESTER V and VI/ SEMESTER V- for those who have not received SEM 6 marks) - 30% weightage.
