Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) in Pharmaceutics

Overview

• Pharmaceutics is the study of the quantitative aspects of drug delivery, and involves the design, development, and evaluation of drugs in combination with an appropriate dosage form.  A pharmaceutical scientist:
• characterizes physical properties of drugs
• develops innovative delivery systems for drugs
• Quantitatively evaluates drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and pharmacological activity in the living organism.
• Pharmaceutics will play a key role due to understanding of dosage form design and evaluation and integral relationship between pharmacokinetics and clinical success.
• Pharmaceutics deals with all facets of the process of turning a new chemical entity (NCE) into a medication that can be used safely and effectively by patients in the community.
• The body’s own physiological signals may be used to direct the delivery of drug only as required for therapy The patient should be provided the maximum opportunity for successful treatment with the chosen drug. Here pharmaceutics is a unique science which can lead in the rational selection and use of drug delivery systems.

Eligibility

For Maharashtra Candidature Candidates and All India Candidature Candidates:

• The candidate should be an Indian National;
• Passed Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy from any All India Council for Technical Education or Pharmacy Council of India or Central or State Government approved institution, with at least 55% marks (at least 50% marks in case of SC or ST category and Persons with Disability Candidates belonging to Maharashtra State only);
• Obtained score in Graduates Pharmacy Aptitude Test (GPAT) conducted by All India Council for Technical Education;
• For sponsored candidates, minimum of two years of full time work experience in a registered firm/ company/ industry/ educational and/ or research institute/ any Government Department or Government Autonomous Organization in the relevant field in which admission is being sought.
