Overview

The Master of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner) at the University of Sydney is an advanced practice programme focused on equipping experienced nurses with the knowledge, skills and leadership required for autonomous nurse-practitioner roles. It involves advanced clinical practice units including diagnostics, pharmacology, clinical judgement, leadership, evidence translation and professional practice. Students must complete 300 hours of supernumerary integrated professional practice (SIPP) in addition to theoretical units. The programme emphasises high-level nursing practice, clinical autonomy, collaborative health-team leadership and the ability to engage in complex decision-making in health care. Graduates will be eligible to apply for endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia. The curriculum also supports the changing roles of nursing in contemporary health care, including innovation, policy and extended practice domains. The flexible mode allows working clinicians to manage study alongside practice, but entry requirements ensure significant prior experience and readiness for the advanced role.
