Overview

This research-intensive master’s degree at UQ provides deep exposure to molecular biology research through extended lab work in areas such as protein technology, enzyme evolution, cloning, bioinformatics, and high-throughput screening. Students carry out a substantial research project (usually over 1 year or its equivalent), working closely with supervisors in university labs or in industry partnerships. Through this immersion, they gain hands-on expertise in designing hypotheses, running experiments, analyzing data, and writing up results in formats suitable for scientific publication. The course also develops scientific communication skills as students present their findings in lab meetings and in a journal-style manuscript.
