Overview
The Master of Medicine (Clinical Epidemiology) at the University of Sydney is a specialised postgraduate programme designed for clinicians and health-research professionals to deepen their expertise in how evidence is generated, interpreted and applied in clinical settings. The course emphasises clinical epidemiology—the discipline that bridges clinical practice with epidemiological methods, enabling practitioners to ask meaningful research questions, design and conduct studies, interpret statistical data and translate findings into improved patient care. Students engage with core units in clinical epidemiology, biostatistics and research methods, and complete elective and capstone units tailored to their interests (such as systematic reviews, clinical trials, teaching clinical epidemiology or projects). The flexible delivery (including online/blended modes) supports professionals working in practice. Graduates are equipped to lead clinical research, contribute to guideline development, and implement evidence-based practice in hospitals or health systems. The University’s strong reputation in medicine and health research, combined with access to experienced clinician-researchers as teachers, enhances the real-world applicability of the skills developed.
