Master of Medical Science (MMS)

1. Professional clinician status (physician, dentist, veterinarian, resident, fellow, faculty) within UTMB.
2. Prior academic and/or clinical degree (e.g., MD or equivalent).
3. Demonstrated interest in biomedical research.
4. Agreement of a faculty research mentor to supervise the individual research project.
5. Completion of application and any program-specific requirements as determined by GSBS admissions.

The Master of Medical Science (MMS) at UTMB is a graduate-level research degree tailored for clinicians who want to formalize and expand their training in biomedical research. The program focuses on building competencies in research methodology, scientific writing, data analysis, and critical thinking while providing structured, mentored research experience aligned with medical science applications. MMS students engage in independent research under a supervisory committee, gaining exposure to collaborative work with basic scientists and physician-scientists engaged in advanced technologies and investigations.
