Master of Exercise Physiology

Hold a recognised bachelor’s or master’s degree in exercise science or a health-related discipline.

Sufficient prerequisite knowledge in anatomy, physiology, and research design/statistics.

(For international applicants) English-language proficiency (e.g., IELTS) and qualification equivalence.

Able to meet any clinical placement / professional practice requirements.

1. The Master of Exercise Physiology at the University of Sydney is designed to develop professionals who can apply exercise science to the prevention, treatment and management of chronic disease, injury and rehabilitation. The programme emphasises advanced knowledge of human physiology, metabolism, motor control, exercise prescription, nutrition, pharmacology and musculoskeletal principles.
2. Throughout the programme, students engage in clinical practice units and applied placements (the university handbook notes that students must provide CPR certification for placement).
3. The course is accredited (provisionally) by the professional body Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA) at the level of Exercise Physiology, meaning graduates may be eligible for membership/accreditation under that organisation.
4. On successful completion, graduates are positioned to work in allied-health settings, rehabilitation services, hospitals, community health, sport clinics, wellness and preventative health programmes. The demand for exercise physiologists is rising in response to chronic disease burdens.
