Overview
The Master of Biotechnology (Research Extensive) at UQ provides a deeper and more hands-on research training than the standard Master’s. Students can choose from more than 30 elective courses across biotechnology fields such as medical, plant agriculture, synthetic biology, and industrial biotechnology. The program includes a year-long research project, giving students real laboratory experience under supervision of leading researchers. Through its integration of scientific, legal, regulatory, and commercialisation learning, the course is ideal for students who aim to translate lab discoveries into real-world biotech products, or who want to join a PhD program.

Eligibility
Bachelor’s degree in biotechnology, science, bioinformatics, pharmacy, or engineering
For 1.5-year option: Bachelor’s Honours degree (or equivalent) + at least one semester of full-time research
Minimum GPA: 5.0 on UQ’s 7-point scale
English language proficiency (IELTS 6.5 overall)
