Interventional Radiology Independent Residency

1. Must have completed a Diagnostic Radiology (DR) Residency before entering the Independent Interventional Radiology Residency.
2. Both Early Specialization in Interventional Radiology (ESIR) and non-ESIR applicants are accepted.
3. Diagnostic Radiology residents who successfully complete ESIR may enter the Independent Interventional Radiology Residency in the second/final year.
4. ESIR applicants must provide the required ESIR verification documents.
5. ESIR applicants must include the Diagnostic Radiology Program Director Standardized Letter of Recommendation in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) application.
6. Applicants must provide United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1, Step 2, and Step 3 scores.

The Independent Interventional Radiology Residency is a one- or two-year advanced training program for physicians who have completed Diagnostic Radiology residency. The program provides comprehensive training in image-guided interventions, including vascular and nonvascular procedures, with clinical exposure across Stanford University Medical Center and affiliated hospitals. Residents also participate in multidisciplinary care, outpatient clinics, intensive care training, conferences, teaching, and research activities, preparing them for independent practice in Interventional Radiology.

1. Apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
2. Submit a personal statement, curriculum vitae, three letters of recommendation, USMLE Step 1, Step 2, and Step 3 scores, and a color photograph.
3. ESIR applicants must additionally submit the required ESIR verification documents and standardized program director letter.
4. The program offers 4 Independent Interventional Radiology Residency positions.
5. Both ESIR and non-ESIR applicants are considered through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) Match.
6. For the current cycle, all application materials must be received by December 2, 2026.
7. The current timeline lists Match Day as May 5, 2027.
