Overview
Food and environmental microbiology offers electives courses such as probiotics and pre-biotics, food contamination and food borne diseases, bio fertilizers and bioremediation. Each stage of course is one up the previous level. Pre-biotics and pro-biotics talk about how microbes are used in therapy and in impacting our over-all health. Food borne diseases then talks about how infectious diseases are contracted through food and what shall be done to prevent it. The last course in the specialization bio-fertilizers and bioremediation elaborates the role of microbes in killing other microbes, pests and insects and bio-remediation elaborates on the use of microbes in removal of toxins, contaminants and pollutants from environment. These three courses enable a student to become prospective food and or environmental microbiologist. The syllabus designed is such that students intern in industries/companies of their interest and do multi-disciplinary research project at School of Health Sciences UPES in tie up with School of computer science, School of business, School of Engineering and Design. The focus remains on outcome based education with the outcome being highly employable, problem solving microbiologists.

Minimum 50% Marks at Higher and Senior Secondary level (10th and 12th) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/ Math’s and English as a Major Subject.
