The ICMR National Institute of Epidemiology (ICMR-NIE) is a permanent premier institute of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), established on 02 July 1999. It was established by merging the Central JALMA Institute for Leprosy (CJIL Field Unit), Avadi and the Institute for Research in Medical Statistics (IRMS), Chennai. It hosts ICMR School of Public Health that conducts various academic programs. It has recognized for PhD Epidemiology by The Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University. It has also recognized for PhD in Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Microbiology by University of Madras.
