Hindu Hruday Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray Medical College (HBTMC) and Dr.Rustom Narsi Cooper Municipal General Hospital are major hospitals in the western suburbs. It is the fourth medical college of the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai apart from the other three MCGM Medical Colleges established in Mumbai. This hospital is established in 1969 and upgraded into a Medical college in August 2015. The college is raised with the auspicious guidance and successful leadership of respected Dr. Ramesh M. Chaturvedi the founder and first Dean of this Medical college. The hospital started as a Maternity Home in 1969 and was upgraded to General Hospital in 1970. Since 1977, it was recognized as Teaching Hospital, affiliated with KEM Hospital. This is a 715 bedded tertiary care hospital having a bed occupancy ratio of 70.25% with all general specialties. HBTMC provides training in undergraduate medical courses to around 200 students per year and postgraduate MD/MS and DNB courses in some specialties.
