Overview

    The course of the studies leading to the award of Diploma in General Nursing & Midwifery shall last for a minimum period of 3 years and is subject to rules and regulation of the Punjab Nurses Registration Council, Chandigarh and Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi. The syllabus is according to Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi.

    Medical examination : The selected candidates shall be examined by a medical board of the hospital. Medically unfit candidates will not be allowed to join the course. Selected candidates must get themselves vaccinated against Hepatitis -B before joining the course at their own cost. 

    Preliminary training period : On admission to the course, each candidate has to undergo preliminary Nursing Training for the first three months. Weekly and monthly tests are given and their progress records are maintained. After three months training, candidates have to appear in P.T.S. examination in which each candidate must secure at least 50% marks to pass the examination. Training of candidates failing to pass this examination will be terminated. On completion of GNM course, the student must apply for life membership of Trained Nurse Association of India.

    Examination eligibility :

    • Student has to complete not less than 11 months of the course.
    • She / He has to attend 80% of formal instructions given on each subject and 80% of the field clinical experience in each area/subject separately during academic year. However, the total clinical/field experience prescribed must be completed before the final council examination and before the issue of Diploma and Registration certificates.
    • The overall performance of the student and her conduct during entire academic year should be satisfactory.
    • The student should have passed internal assessment examination in each subject i.e. both in theory and practical by securing 50% marks separately in each paper.
    • If a student fails in one theory paper/practical, she/he shall be promoted to the next year of the study. She would sit for supplementary examination in the failed subject/practical. If she fails to clear supplementary examination, she shall be allowed to sit again along with her next year annual examinations. She shall not be promoted to the third year of study unless she has cleared all the papers of first year of study.
    • If a student fails in two or more papers or practical, she shall not be promoted to the next year. She shall sit for supplementary examination in the failed subjects/practical only. If she does not clear the supplementary she can appear in the next main examination. She shall be promoted to the next year study only after clearing the papers either in supplementary or in the main examination. She shall be eligible for the examination of the next year of study after one academic year from the passing the last examination (main/supplementary).
    • If a student fails in one theory paper/practical examination of third year, she will be allowed to sit for supplementary examination held subsequently in the failed subject/practical.

Eligibility

    • The candidate shall be 17 years or more and 35 years or less.
    • Minimum qualification shall be 12 years of schooling (10+2) or its equivalent with minimum 40% marks.
    • Preference shall be given to those who have passed 10+2 or its equivalent with science i.e. Physics, Chemistry & Biology.
    • The candidate should be medically fit.
    • Only unmarried females can apply.

Admission Process:

    The Admission in the Guru Nanak Mission Institute of Nursing requires students to undergo certain procedures laid out by the Government before enrolling in for the available academic courses.

    For admission procedure, the application must be accompanied by the following documents attested by a gazetted officer:

    • A copy of certificate of having passed 10+2 examination.
    • 3 recent passport sized photographs & Adhar Card.
    • A certificate of having passed the matriculation examination (showing date of birth).
    • A certificate of good character from the Headmaster/Principal of the educational institute last attended.
    • Authority form and photos of relative must be signed/attested by parents.
    • The application should either be delivered personally at the counter in the office of the college of Nursing or sent by the Registered Post.

    If at any stage, it is found that the candidate has supplied any false information in the admission form, then her candidature for the course shall be cancelled.

    The selection list as well as waiting list will be placed on the notice board at Guru Nanak College of Nursing, Dhahan Kaleran, Distt Nawanshahr, next day of the Interview.

    The seat of the candidate who fail to deposit the dues in the specified time will be allotted to the next eligible candidate in the waiting list.
