The Gem Institute of Nursing Education and Research was started in the academic year 2009 – 2010. It is approved by the Tamilnadu Government, The Indian Nursing Council, The Tamilnadu Nurses and Midwives Council and is affiliated to the Tamilnadu Dr.M.G.R.Medical University, Chennai. Initially the annual intake was 50 for B.Sc Nursing programme and it was increased to 60 from the academic year 2017 – 2018. The Post Basic B.Sc Nursing programme was started in the academic year 2012 – 2013. The institution is headed by Dr.Lizzie Raveendran, M.Sc(N)., PhD who has more than 33 years of teaching experience. Her experience and expertise come handy in efficient management of the college. She is responsible for planning and implementing the curriculum, getting the permission and continual affiliation for the professional authorities and getting permission for the affiliating hospitals for the clinical practice of students. She is assisted by well qualified Vice-Principal and teachers.
