The Thoracic Surgery Fellowship Program at the University of Colorado is a three-year fellowship designed to provide comprehensive training in cardiothoracic surgery. The program offers clinical experience in adult cardiac surgery, general thoracic surgery, pediatric/congenital cardiac surgery, transplantation and ventricular assist devices through rotations at University of Colorado Hospital, Children’s Hospital Colorado and the Denver VA Medical Center. The first two years provide broad subspecialty training, while the third year allows fellows to focus on their chosen career area, such as general thoracic surgery, adult cardiac surgery, esophageal surgery, minimally invasive thoracic surgery or valve repair. Fellows receive progressively increasing operative responsibility and are prepared for independent clinical practice and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery examination process.
