Fellowship in Stroke and Interventional Neurology

1. Completion of an ACGME-accredited Neurology Residency.
2. Eligibility for medical licensure in the State of Oklahoma.
3. Valid ECFMG certification for international medical graduates (if applicable).
4. Application submission through ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service).
5. Participation in the NRMP Fellowship Match (when applicable).
6. Demonstrated clinical interest and experience in stroke care or neurovascular medicine.

The Vascular Neurology Fellowship at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine is a specialized one-year postgraduate training program designed to develop expert stroke neurologists. The program provides intensive exposure to acute stroke management, including thrombolysis, mechanical thrombectomy collaboration, neurocritical care, and advanced neuroimaging interpretation. Fellows participate in comprehensive stroke services at OU Health, managing high-volume emergency stroke activations and inpatient neurovascular care. Training emphasizes secondary stroke prevention, risk factor modification, cerebrovascular diagnostics, and multidisciplinary care involving neurosurgery, interventional neuroradiology, cardiology, and rehabilitation medicine. The curriculum integrates structured didactics, stroke conferences, quality improvement initiatives, and research opportunities in cerebrovascular disease. Fellows also gain experience in outpatient stroke clinics and post-stroke follow-up care. Graduates are prepared for American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) subspecialty certification in Vascular Neurology and for careers in comprehensive stroke centers, academic neurology, or advanced neurovascular practice.
