The Pediatric Ophthalmology & Adult Strabismus Fellowship at the Wilmer Eye Institute of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is a comprehensive, high-volume subspecialty training program designed to develop advanced expertise in the diagnosis and management of eye diseases in children and ocular misalignment (strabismus) in both pediatric and adult patients. Conducted primarily at the renowned Zanvyl Krieger Children’s Eye Center, the program offers fellows extensive exposure to a wide range of routine and complex cases referred from across the region and internationally. Fellows actively participate in outpatient clinics, inpatient consultations, and surgical procedures, gaining hands-on experience in managing conditions such as amblyopia, congenital cataracts, pediatric glaucoma, retinopathy of prematurity, and various ocular motility disorders. A strong emphasis is placed on surgical training, particularly in advanced strabismus procedures, including modern techniques and management of complex or re-operative cases. In addition to clinical and surgical experience, the fellowship promotes academic growth through structured teaching sessions, case discussions, multidisciplinary collaboration, and active involvement in research activities, presentations, and publications. The program ultimately aims to produce highly skilled ophthalmologists capable of delivering specialized pediatric eye care, managing complex strabismus cases, and contributing to academic and research advancements in the field.
