Fellowship in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine

The UAB Spinal Cord Injury Medicine Fellowship is a 12-month advanced training program focused on the comprehensive care of patients with traumatic and non-traumatic spinal cord injuries and disorders. Fellows gain experience in inpatient, outpatient, and consultation services while working with multidisciplinary teams to manage medical, neurological, functional, and rehabilitation needs. Training includes spinal cord injury management, rehabilitation planning, assistive technology, discharge coordination, and management of complex complications. Fellows also participate in specialty rotations, weekly educational sessions, Grand Rounds, journal clubs, research, and quality-improvement activities, preparing them for independent practice and certification in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine.

1. Submit the application through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
2. Selection is conducted through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).
3. Applications are evaluated based on academic records, written application materials, scholarly activities, and interviews.
4. The application period generally runs from April through August.
5. Ranking generally takes place during September and October.
6. The fellowship match generally occurs toward the end of October.
7. The fellowship begins on August 1 each year.
