Fellowship in Population Health Research

• Must be a board-certified or board-eligible Emergency Physician
• Must have completed an accredited residency program (Emergency Medicine or related field)
• Must be eligible to obtain or hold a California medical license
• Should meet requirements for UCI Medical Staff privileges and clinical practice
• Strong interest in clinical research, population health, or public health
• Ability to work as a clinical instructor/attending physician during the fellowship

The Research Fellowship in Population Health at UC Irvine is a two-year advanced training program designed to develop emergency physicians into independent clinical researchers and academic leaders in population health. The fellowship provides protected research time, formal training in research methodology, and opportunities to pursue a master’s degree (MPH/MS) focused on research skills. Fellows gain hands-on experience in study design, grant writing, scientific publication, and population health research, while also participating in teaching, mentorship, and departmental academic activities. In addition, fellows work as clinical instructors/attending physicians, contributing to patient care and training residents, with the overall goal of preparing them for funded research careers and leadership roles in academic emergency medicine.
