Fellowship in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

1. MD or DO from an accredited medical school
2. Completed residency in General Surgery or Plastic Surgery accredited by ACGME
3. Valid USMLE/COMLEX Step scores
4. Eligibility for Pennsylvania state medical licensure
5. Submission of application materials including CV, personal statement, letters of recommendation
6. Participation in interview and fellowship selection process.

The Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship at Reading Hospital – Tower Health offers rigorous, comprehensive training for advanced surgical practice in plastic and reconstructive surgery. Fellows rotate through core areas such as reconstructive procedures, aesthetic techniques, hand surgery, microsurgery, wound care, and regional multidisciplinary clinics. The curriculum includes structured clinical rotations — such as general plastic surgery, microsurgery and advanced prosthetic reconstructive rotations, hand and cosmetic surgery, pain management, anesthesia exposure, and wound care — across PGY-6, PGY-7, and PGY-8 levels with increasing autonomy and procedural responsibility. Fellows also participate in regular didactics including curriculum-aligned lectures, monthly journal clubs, morbidity & mortality conferences, and formal academic sessions, ensuring integration of evidence-based practice and surgical knowledge. The program engages fellows in clinical research, quality improvement projects, and interdisciplinary collaboration with specialties such as trauma surgery, orthopedics, burn care, and pediatric surgery. Faculty members from Tower Health and affiliate sites bring extensive clinical and academic expertise, providing mentorship and preparing graduates for leadership roles in plastic and reconstructive surgery practice or further subspecialty training.
