Fellowship in Pain Medicine

The Pain Medicine Fellowship at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, Chicago is a 1-year (12-month) advanced, multidisciplinary training program focused on comprehensive pain management. The program provides training primarily at the University of Illinois Chicago Outpatient Care Center and the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, where fellows gain extensive clinical exposure in diverse settings. It emphasizes a multidisciplinary approach, integrating medical, interventional, and surgical techniques for managing acute, chronic, and cancer-related pain conditions. Fellows develop strong expertise in patient care, medical knowledge, and hands-on interventional procedures, including advanced pain management techniques. The curriculum is designed to build competency in both clinical practice and academic development, preparing fellows for independent practice and leadership roles in pain medicine.

• Completion of an ACGME-accredited residency program
• MD or DO degree (or equivalent; ECFMG certification required for international graduates)
• Must be board eligible or board certified in the primary specialty
• Eligible to obtain an Illinois medical license before joining
• Strong clinical training background with interest in pain medicine
• Required application documents: CV, personal statement, and letters of recommendation
• USMLE/COMLEX scores required as part of ERAS application
