Fellowship in Pain Medicine

• Must hold MD / DO or equivalent medical degree
• Completion of accredited residency (Anesthesiology / PM&R / Neurology / Psychiatry or related specialty)
• Must be eligible for Maryland medical license
• Required to obtain DEA & CDS license eligibility
• Must pass background check & credentialing process
• Should be eligible to work/train in the USA (visa/work authorization)
• For international applicants: ECFMG certification + USMLE required

The Pain Medicine Fellowship at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is a one-year, ACGME-accredited program that provides advanced training in the comprehensive management of acute and chronic pain. The course is designed to combine strong academic learning with intensive clinical exposure, allowing fellows to develop expertise in both interventional and non-interventional pain treatments. Trainees participate in structured didactic sessions such as lectures, case discussions, and journal clubs, while also gaining hands-on experience through multidisciplinary rotations in areas like anesthesiology, neurology, psychiatry, rehabilitation, and cancer pain care. The program emphasizes a biopsychosocial approach to pain, integrating pharmacologic therapies, interventional procedures (such as nerve blocks and spinal cord stimulation), and behavioral strategies. In addition, fellows are encouraged to engage in research and scholarly activities, preparing them for leadership roles in clinical practice, academics, and innovation in pain medicine.

• Obtain Maryland medical license
• Complete hospital credentialing & background checks
• Fulfill visa requirements (for international applicants)
