Fellowship in Neurophysiology

The Clinical Neurophysiology Fellowship at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is a one-year ACGME-accredited fellowship offered through the Ken & Ruth Davee Department of Neurology at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, one of the nation's leading academic medical centers. The program provides comprehensive training in electroencephalography (EEG), long-term video EEG monitoring, epilepsy monitoring unit (EMU) evaluations, continuous EEG interpretation, intraoperative electrocorticography (ECoG), and neurophysiologic intraoperative monitoring (NIOM). Fellows spend at least nine months in intensive EEG training, followed by two to three months dedicated to intraoperative monitoring and evoked potentials. Training also includes participation in epilepsy surgery planning, stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG), subdural grid evaluations, and a continuity outpatient epilepsy clinic. Fellows are exposed to advanced neurophysiology technologies while working closely with nationally recognized faculty in epilepsy and clinical neurophysiology. The curriculum incorporates weekly didactic lectures, multidisciplinary conferences, journal clubs, and protected research time, with fellows expected to complete at least one scholarly research project suitable for presentation at national meetings and publication in peer-reviewed journals. Graduates are eligible for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) Subspecialty Certification in Clinical Neurophysiology and the American Board of Clinical Neurophysiology (ABCN) examination. Many fellows also pursue an additional year of Epilepsy Fellowship for dual subspecialty expertise.
