Fellowship in Neonatology

The three-year Neonatology Fellowship Program at UAB provides comprehensive clinical, research, and academic training in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. Fellows gain advanced experience in caring for critically ill and high-risk newborns, including neonatal resuscitation, respiratory support, vascular access, nutrition, neonatal transport, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, surgical conditions, and multisystem disorders. Training includes extensive clinical experience in neonatal intensive care units, along with research, teaching, quality improvement, conferences, and follow-up care for high-risk infants.

1. Submit the application through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS); UAB lists Neonatology among its fellowship programs using ERAS.
2. Complete the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) Common Application Form.
3. Submit three letters of recommendation, including one from the Department Chair or Residency Director.
4. Submit United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Steps 1, 2, and 3 scores, or Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination (COMLEX) Levels 1, 2, and 3 scores.
5. Submit a personal statement, curriculum vitae, and medical school transcript through ERAS.
6. Selected applicants are invited for a virtual interview.
7. The program participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). For the 2026–2027 cycle, UAB lists application submission beginning July 1, 2026, application review from July 15, interview invitations in August, interviews in September and October, and Match Day on December 2, 2026.
