Fellowship in Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery

• Hold an MD/DO or equivalent medical degree.
• Successfully complete a 5-year General Surgery Residency (U.S., Canada, or equivalent international program).
• Demonstrate proficiency in laparoscopic and open surgical techniques.
• Be proficient in written and spoken English.
• Submit the required application documents as specified by the program.

The Fellowship in Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery at the University of Illinois College of Medicine (UICOM), Chicago is a one-year advanced fellowship (with an optional second year) that provides comprehensive training in advanced laparoscopic, minimally invasive, and robot-assisted gastrointestinal surgery. Fellows gain extensive operative experience in foregut, bariatric, hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB), endocrine, colorectal, complex hernia, and abdominal wall surgery, as well as flexible endoscopy. The program emphasizes advanced robotic techniques, multidisciplinary collaboration, research, teaching, and progressive operative responsibility, preparing fellows for independent practice in minimally invasive and robotic surgery. Fellows also participate in outpatient clinics, emergency surgical care, didactic conferences, and scholarly activities to develop both clinical and academic expertise.
