Fellowship in Genitourinary Pathology

1. Must hold a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree.
2. Must have completed 3 years of Anatomic Pathology (AP) training.
3. Alternatively, must have completed 4 years of combined Anatomic Pathology/Clinical Pathology (AP/CP) training.
4. Previous training in Surgical Pathology or Cytopathology is preferred.

The Genitourinary Pathology Fellowship at UAB Heersink School of Medicine is a one-year advanced training program covering benign and malignant diseases of the prostate, bladder, kidney, testis, penis, and adrenal gland. Fellows gain extensive experience in reviewing and signing out genitourinary cases, including needle biopsies, resections, and consultation specimens, with opportunities for routine and frozen-section services based on qualifications. The program includes participation in multidisciplinary conferences and tumor boards, structured lectures and slide sessions, elective rotations in other Surgical Pathology subspecialties, and opportunities to participate in basic, translational, or applied research leading to publications and national presentations. A combined Gynecologic/Genitourinary one-year fellowship option is also available.
