Fellowship in Gastroenterology

1. MD or DO from an accredited medical institution
2. Completed Internal Medicine residency (ACGME)
3. Valid USMLE/COMLEX Step I & Step II CK results
4. Pennsylvania medical licensure eligibility prior to fellowship start
5. Application materials (CV, personal statement, letters of recommendation) submitted through ERAS or program contact
6. Participation in the interview and selection process

The Gastroenterology Fellowship at Reading Hospital – Tower Health offers advanced training designed to prepare fellows for expert clinical practice in gastroenterology and hepatology. The program integrates inpatient and outpatient experiences at Reading Hospital and Pottstown Hospital, ensuring broad exposure to a wide range of gastrointestinal disorders and liver disease. Fellows participate in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures — including standard endoscopy, colonoscopy, and exposure to advanced endoscopic techniques — and receive comprehensive training in hepatic consultation and continuity patient care. Weekly educational activities enrich the clinical experience, including pathology case conferences, journal clubs, board review sessions, research meetings, and multidisciplinary GI tumor boards. Longitudinal continuity clinics supplement inpatient consultations, and electives can be tailored toward individual interests including transplant hepatology or research. Advanced training in hepatology is included, with opportunities for elective participation in transplant hepatology at affiliated centers. Faculty clinicians mentor fellows throughout their progression, emphasizing clinical excellence, procedural competence, interdisciplinary collaboration, and evidence-based medicine in a diverse patient population spanning urban, suburban, and rural communities.
