The Forensic Pathology Fellowship at UAB Heersink School of Medicine is a one-year advanced training program conducted in collaboration with the Jefferson County Coroner/Medical Examiner Office in Birmingham. Fellows receive comprehensive training in forensic death investigation, scene investigations, complete postmortem examinations, forensic documentation, and preparation of reports and protocols. The program provides exposure to homicide, accidental, suicidal, and other unexpected deaths, along with opportunities to review medical and police records and work with forensic photography, radiography, crime laboratories, and forensic toxicology services. Fellows also gain experience in courtroom testimony, teaching, and forensic pathology research.
