Fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism

• MD, DO, or equivalent international medical degree.
• Completion of an ACGME-accredited Internal Medicine residency.
• Board Eligible in Internal Medicine at the start of fellowship.
• Successful completion of USMLE Steps 1, 2, and 3 (or equivalent, as applicable).
• Eligible for an Illinois medical license.
• Apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
• Participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) Medical Specialties Match.
• J-1 visa applicants are eligible for the two-year clinical track.
• H-1B visa sponsorship is not available.
• U.S. citizens and permanent residents are eligible for the optional NIH-supported third-year research training (NUPEDHA).

The Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism Fellowship at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is a nationally recognized two-year ACGME-accredited fellowship designed to prepare physicians for careers in academic endocrinology and advanced clinical practice. Administered by the Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism & Molecular Medicine, the program offers comprehensive clinical exposure at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Northwestern Medical Group, Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, and Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. Fellows receive extensive training in the management of diabetes, thyroid disorders, pituitary and adrenal diseases, osteoporosis, lipid disorders, obesity, reproductive endocrinology, transgender medicine, and metabolic bone diseases. The curriculum includes specialized clinics in thyroid ultrasound and fine-needle aspiration, continuous glucose monitoring, insulin pump therapy, diabetes in pregnancy, bone health, and endocrine oncology. Structured educational activities include weekly didactic conferences, journal clubs, endocrine practicum sessions, board review conferences, multidisciplinary thyroid tumor boards, and wellness education. Fellows are paired with experienced faculty mentors and participate in clinical, translational, or laboratory research, with opportunities to extend research training through the NIH-funded Northwestern University Program in Endocrinology, Diabetes & Hormone Action (NUPEDHA). Graduates are exceptionally well prepared for academic careers, physician-scientist pathways, and leadership roles in endocrinology and metabolism.
