Fellowship in Cornea, External Diseases & Refractive Surgery

The Cornea, External Diseases & Refractive Surgery Fellowship at the Keck School of Medicine of USC is a one-year AUPO FCC-compliant fellowship providing advanced training in the diagnosis and medical and surgical management of corneal and external eye diseases and refractive disorders. Fellows receive comprehensive experience in diseases of the lids, conjunctiva, cornea, sclera and anterior segment, with exposure to posterior-segment conditions affecting the anterior segment. Surgical training includes conjunctival, corneal, scleral and anterior-segment procedures, with particular emphasis on corneal transplantation, including penetrating and lamellar keratoplasties. About 25% of fellowship time is spent at the Cornea, External Disease & Refractive Clinic at Los Angeles General Medical Center, where fellows participate in patient care and perform corneal transplant procedures under supervision. Training takes place at USC Roski Eye Institute, Children's Hospital Los Angeles, and Los Angeles General Medical Center.
