Fellowship in Cornea, Cataract & Refractive Surgery

1. Completion of accredited Ophthalmology residency.
2. Eligibility for Oklahoma medical training license.
3. ECFMG certification for international medical graduates (if applicable).
4. Application submission through institutional fellowship recruitment or ERAS (if applicable).
5. Demonstrated interest in corneal surgery, ocular surface disease, or refractive procedures.

The Cornea, External Diseases & Refractive Surgery Fellowship at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine is an advanced one-year super-specialty training program designed to develop expertise in both medical and surgical corneal care. Fellows receive comprehensive exposure to corneal infections, inflammatory disorders, dystrophies, keratoconus, and ocular surface diseases, along with extensive training in dry eye management. Surgical training includes corneal transplantation techniques such as penetrating keratoplasty, DSAEK, DMEK, and lamellar keratoplasty, as well as refractive surgeries including LASIK, PRK, and SMILE exposure. The program emphasizes evidence-based clinical decision-making, surgical precision, and patient-centered care. Fellows actively participate in outpatient clinics, operating rooms, and multidisciplinary case discussions. Academic development through teaching, research involvement, and presentations is strongly encouraged. Graduates are well prepared for subspecialty clinical practice or academic ophthalmology careers.
