Fellowship in Clinical Genetics

The Medical Genetics Fellowship at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine is a specialized two-year postgraduate training program designed to develop physicians with advanced expertise in clinical genetics and genomic medicine. The program provides comprehensive exposure to pediatric and adult genetic disorders, prenatal genetics, cancer genetics, biochemical genetics, and inherited metabolic diseases. Fellows participate in outpatient genetics clinics, inpatient consultations, and multidisciplinary case conferences involving pediatrics, neurology, oncology, and maternal-fetal medicine. Training emphasizes genetic evaluation, diagnostic testing interpretation, genomic technologies, and patient-centered genetic counseling. Fellows also gain experience in ethical, legal, and psychosocial aspects of genetic medicine. The curriculum integrates didactics, research opportunities, and teaching responsibilities. Graduates are prepared for American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG) certification and for careers in academic medicine, tertiary care hospitals, or specialized genetics centers.

1. Complete Residency Training in Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, or an eligible specialty.
2. Prepare Application Documents: Curriculum vitae, personal statement, letters of recommendation, and proof of completed training.
3. Submit Application: Apply via ERAS or institutional fellowship recruitment process.
4. Interview Process: Shortlisted candidates are invited for interviews (virtual or in person).
5. Selection Decision: Final selection through match or institutional review.
6. Licensing & Credentialing: Complete Oklahoma medical licensure and institutional onboarding requirements.
7. Commencement of Fellowship: Training begins as per academic calendar, usually July 1.
