Overview
The Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychiatry Fellowship at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is offered through the internationally recognized Mesulam Institute for Cognitive Neurology and Alzheimer's Disease. The fellowship is designed to prepare neurologists and psychiatrists for academic careers in behavioral neurology, neuropsychiatry, and cognitive neuroscience. Clinical training takes place at the Neurobehavior and Memory Clinic at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where fellows evaluate patients with a broad spectrum of cognitive and behavioral disorders, including Alzheimer's disease, frontotemporal dementia, primary progressive aphasia, Lewy body disease, traumatic brain injury, epilepsy, movement disorders, stroke-related cognitive impairment, and other neurobehavioral conditions. The program combines supervised outpatient clinical experience with multidisciplinary teaching involving neurology, psychiatry, neuropsychology, neuropathology, neuroradiology, and social work. Fellows participate in weekly case conferences, cognitive neuroscience seminars, neurology grand rounds, and Alzheimer's disease lectures. The fellowship also provides extensive mentored research opportunities through the Mesulam Institute, including projects in cognitive neuroscience, neurodegeneration, functional neuroimaging, neuropathology, and translational neuroscience. Graduates are well prepared for leadership roles in academic medicine and are eligible to pursue UCNS certification in Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychiatry.
