Overview
The Bariatric Surgery Fellowship at Reading Hospital – Tower Health prepares surgeons for advanced clinical practice in the field of metabolic and bariatric surgery. Fellows gain hands-on exposure to the full continuum of care for bariatric patients, including preoperative evaluation, operative procedures (such as sleeve gastrectomy, Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, and biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch), postoperative management, and long-term follow-up. A significant focus of training includes competency in robotic surgical platforms and minimally invasive techniques, along with mastery of clinical decision-making and complication management. The fellowship emphasizes multidisciplinary collaboration across dietetics, endocrinology, anesthesiology, and behavioral health to ensure comprehensive care for patients with obesity. Reading Hospital is accredited as an MBSAQIP Comprehensive Center with adolescent and obesity medicine qualifications, which ensures a high standard of bariatric care and supports a robust educational environment. Graduates are equipped with the clinical, surgical, and leadership skills required to excel in bariatric practice or academic settings.
