The Advanced Interventional and Structural Fellowship at UAB Heersink School of Medicine is a one-year, non-Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)-accredited fellowship designed to train advanced cardiologists in structural heart and complex coronary intervention. Fellows receive extensive hands-on exposure to high-volume structural procedures, including Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR), transseptal and hemodynamic studies, left atrial appendage occlusion, MitraClip, and atrial septal defect and patent foramen ovale procedures. Advanced training includes valve-in-valve and tricuspid interventions, paravalvular leak management, complex extracorporeal membrane oxygenation cannulation, pulmonary embolism intervention, advanced transesophageal echocardiography, and complex atherectomy. Fellows also participate in interventional and structural research and attend weekly Interventional and Structural Cardiology and Structural Heart and Valve conferences.
