Fellowship in Advanced GI Minimally Invasive/Bariatric Surgery

1. Applicants must have completed the required surgical residency training for advanced GI/MIS fellowship
2. Must be eligible to obtain a California medical license, which UCSF lists as required
3. The program does not accept applications from residents outside the U.S. or Canada
4. Applicants should meet UCSF's applicable clinical fellowship appointment and credentialing requirements

The Advanced GI Minimally Invasive/Bariatric Surgery Fellowship at UCSF School of Medicine provides immersive training in advanced laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery, with the principal clinical objective of developing advanced laparoscopic skills. Fellows gain experience in major procedures including gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, adrenalectomy, colon resection, Heller myotomy, Nissen fundoplication, gastrojejunostomy, and hernia repairs. The program also offers exposure to laparoscopic urology and robotic procedures, complex open operations such as esophagectomy, gastrectomy, pancreatectomy, and biliary reconstruction, as well as clinical research, surgical education, and advanced laparoscopic and robotic skills training. Training takes place at UCSF Moffitt-Long Medical Center, UCSF Mt. Zion Medical Center, and San Francisco VA Medical Center, with access to dry and wet laboratory facilities.
