Fellowship in Addiction Psychiatry

The Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship at UMass Chan Medical School is a one-year, ACGME-accredited program for physicians who have completed a general psychiatry residency, offering training in evaluating and treating substance use disorders alongside co-occurring psychiatric conditions. Fellows gain hands-on experience in consultation, buprenorphine management, and treatment for alcohol, opiate, cocaine, and cannabis addictions, training across settings like the Addiction and Comorbidity Treatment Research Unit (ACT-R) and Community Healthlink. Led by Program Director Dr. Amy Harrington, the program prepares graduates to become skilled clinicians and advocates for patients with addiction and mental health needs.

1. Applications are handled directly by the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences (subspecialty psychiatry fellowships typically apply outside the standard NRMP Match, often via the Psychiatry Online Fellowship Match or direct application — best confirmed with the coordinator)
2. Submit required documents: CV, letters of recommendation, personal statement, medical school transcript, residency training verification
3. Selected candidates are invited to interview with the Addiction Psychiatry faculty, including Program Director Dr. Amy Harrington
4. Offers are extended based on interview outcomes and rank/selection process
5. Upon acceptance, complete credentialing, license verification, and pre-employment checks before the fellowship start date
