Overview
- The Sleep Medicine Fellowship at NYU Grossman School of Medicine is a one-year ACGME-accredited advanced training program designed to prepare physicians for careers in clinical sleep medicine, academic medicine, and sleep-related research. The fellowship is administered through the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine and provides extensive multidisciplinary exposure to a broad range of sleep disorders.
- The program offers comprehensive clinical training at several major NYU-affiliated institutions, including Bellevue Hospital, VA NY Harbor Healthcare System, Tisch Hospital, and NYU Langone outpatient sleep clinics. Fellows evaluate and manage diverse patient populations with both common and complex sleep disorders.
- A major strength of the fellowship is its multidisciplinary curriculum. Fellows collaborate with specialists in pulmonology, neurology, psychiatry, pediatrics, otolaryngology, dentistry, and behavioral medicine, reflecting the broad scope of modern sleep medicine.
- Training includes extensive experience in interpreting polysomnography, home sleep studies, multiple sleep latency testing, maintenance of wakefulness testing, and actigraphy. Fellows develop advanced diagnostic and management skills across the spectrum of sleep disorders.
- The fellowship provides dedicated exposure to pediatric sleep medicine, sleep dentistry, pulmonary function testing, neurology, EEG interpretation, and sleep-related breathing disorders. This broad clinical experience supports comprehensive board preparation and clinical competence.
- Research opportunities are available through NYU Langone's active sleep medicine research programs. Fellows may participate in projects involving sleep-disordered breathing, neurodegeneration, sleep physiology, positive airway pressure adherence, pregnancy-related sleep disorders, and other emerging areas of investigation.
- Educational activities include twice-weekly sleep medicine conferences, journal clubs, research presentations, multidisciplinary case conferences, grand rounds, and board review sessions. Fellows are encouraged to present scholarly work at regional and national meetings.
- Graduates are well prepared for careers in academic sleep medicine, private practice, hospital-based sleep programs, research institutions, and leadership positions within multidisciplinary sleep centers.
