Overview
The Graduate Physiotherapy Program at Austin Health is designed to help new physiotherapists grow in a structured, supportive hospital environment. Graduates work across three rotations per year, exposing them to a wide variety of patient care settings — acute inpatient wards, subacute rehabilitation, community/outpatient services, and even research. They receive dedicated clinical supervision, with at least 10 hours of formal or point-of-care supervision annually. The program also includes a robust in-service education framework, regular journal clubs, and professional development activities. In one rotation, graduates spend 8 months in research, working closely with senior academic physiotherapists. The model of care is built on triaging patients to the “right physio at the right time” rather than strictly by ward, thereby aligning care based on physiotherapy need rather than physical location. Participants also access Austin Health’s New Graduate Allied Health Program, and may have opportunities to take advanced training like the CRASH (Cardiorespiratory Acute Skills in Hospitals) course.
