Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)

The BSN to DNP Nurse Practitioner track at UTMB is part of the School of Nursing’s Doctor of Nursing Practice program, strategically designed to prepare BSN-educated registered nurses for advanced clinical practice as nurse practitioners. This program emphasizes evidence-based practice, transformational leadership, population health, healthcare policy, advanced health assessment, and complex clinical decision-making. Students choose practice tracks such as Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP), or dual FNP/AGACNP, integrating both foundational DNP coursework and extensive clinical hours. Graduates are eligible to sit for national nurse practitioner certification exams and assume leadership roles in diverse healthcare settings.
