Overview

The Doctor of Medicine (MD) / Master of Public Health (MPH) Dual Degree Program at UC Irvine is a comprehensive five-year integrated program designed for medical students who want to combine clinical medicine with population health expertise. The program focuses on training future physicians to understand and address broader determinants of health, including community health needs, disease prevention, and healthcare systems. Students gain strong foundations in epidemiology, biostatistics, health policy, and public health practice while continuing their medical education. The curriculum is structured so that MPH coursework is typically completed after the third year of medical school, allowing students to apply public health principles to clinical practice. Overall, the program prepares graduates for leadership roles in healthcare, research, and public health initiatives aimed at improving health outcomes at both individual and population levels.
