The Department of Paediatrics at Medical College, Baroda is a well-established unit (since 1949) that provides both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, the latter via MD in Paediatrics with 12 seats annually. The department has a large Newborn Care Unit including Level III NICU, a 40-bed Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) unit, well-resourced human milk bank, several clinics (newborn, high risk follow-up, nutrition, etc.), and manages a high patient load across neonatal and paediatric wards. It also undertakes research and clinical trials (vaccine trials, neonatal sepsis studies, feeding studies in low birth weight infants etc.) and engages heavily in community service. The training includes rotations through neonatal intensive care, pediatric intensive care (PICU), outpatient clinics, immunization programs, nutrition and growth and development, and special clinics (e.g. hematology, high risk newborn follow up). Graduates are well prepared for both hospital-based paediatric practice and for academic or research roles.
