Eligibility Criteria

Completed bachelor’s degree (minimum of three years full-time equivalent) from recognised institution.
Demonstrated sustained academic performance in the bachelor’s degree (and any other postgraduate study if relevant).
For international applicants: meet English language requirements (IELTS 7.0/7.0 bands) or equivalent.
Applicants may need to pass an approved admissions test (such as GAMSAT) depending on candidature type.
Applicants must meet any “inherent requirements” for dental practice (e.g., physical, communication, clinical placement capability) though specifics may need to be checked in the handbook.
Special entry schemes apply for Indigenous/Australian rural applicants.

About Course

The DMD at the University of Sydney is a professionally oriented doctoral-level dental programme that emphasises early practical, patient-based learning complemented by simulation, laboratory and clinic experiences.
Over four years students progress through foundational biomedical, oral and systemic sciences, simulation clinics and substantial clinical placements in university dental hospitals and community settings.
The curriculum is designed to meet evolving oral-health needs, equip graduates with leadership, research literacy, team-based care, cultural competence and evidence-informed clinical judgement.
Graduates are eligible for registration with the Dental Board of Australia, enabling them to practise as dentists in Australia (and in many cases meet requirements for overseas recognition) with the appropriate licensing steps.
