    1. The Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (Paediatric Dentistry) at the University of Sydney is an intensive three-year full-time specialist programme designed to train dentists to become paediatric dentistry specialists. The curriculum spans advanced paediatric oral health care, including behaviour management of children, preventive dentistry, assessment and treatment planning for children, restorative paediatric dentistry, management of dental trauma in children, development of occlusion and dental anomalies, paediatric oral pathology, community paediatric dentistry and research studies.
    2. Students complete 144 credit points and the programme is structured in a sequence across Years 1 to 3 involving core units and clinical rotations.
    3. Emphasis is placed on evidence-based practice, interdisciplinary collaboration (including with medical and allied health services for children with special needs), clinical leadership, and the ability to treat children and adolescents in specialist hospital, community and private settings. Graduates will be eligible for specialist registration in Paediatric Dentistry and may pursue careers in specialist paediatric dental clinics, hospital dental departments, academic teaching and research.

Eligibility

    1. Hold a recognised dental qualification (e.g., BDS, DMD, or equivalent) from an approved institution.
    2. Be eligible for specialist training and registered (or eligible) with the dental regulatory body in the relevant jurisdiction (e.g., Dental Board of Australia) or hold limited registration for postgraduate training.
    3. Demonstrate interest and aptitude in paediatric dentistry, including relevant dental practice experience.
    4. Meet English language proficiency requirements (for non-native English speakers).
    5. Be able to meet “inherent requirements” of specialist clinical training (clinical skills, professionalism, patient communication, etc).

Admission Process:

    1. Ensure you hold the required dental qualification and meet registration/eligibility for specialist training.
    2. Submit an online application via the University of Sydney specialist dentistry admissions portal by the stated deadline.
    3. Provide supporting documents: academic transcripts, proof of dental qualification, proof of registration/licence, CV/resume demonstrating dental practice experience, and evidence of interest in paediatric dentistry.
    4. Meet English language proficiency (if required) and any additional university requirements (clearances, portfolio, reference letters).
    5. Applicants are assessed on academic merit, professional registration, practice experience, and specialist interest, and may attend an interview or portfolio review.
    6. If offered a place, accept the offer, enrol and complete any pre-enrolment requirements (e.g., health/immunisation clearances, background checks).
    7. Commence full-time specialist training over three years: complete required units and practical/clinical training in paediatric dentistry, research components, and specialist rotations. Upon successful completion, apply for specialist registration as a paediatric dentist.
