About
The Distance education department was started in September 2004 as a response to the acute need for multi-competent specialists to meet the huge demand in the health sector. This was spear-headed by Dr. Vinod Shah who established the Distance education Unit and launched a “Refer Less, Resolve More” initiative in the form of a 2 year Post Graduate Diploma in Family Medicine (PGDFM). Christian Medical College, Vellore was established in the year 1918 and was founded by Dr Ida Sophia Scudder, the daughter of a medical missionary. The medical institute is also known as CMC Vellore. The institute is an unaided, non-capitation, Christian minority, educational institution. Earlier the college was affiliated to the University of Madras, later on, it got affiliated to Tamil Nadu Dr M.G.R. Medical University.
Facilities:
Library: CMC Vellore has a library that has all kinds of text and reference books for the students and is a perfect place for book lovers.
Sports: Christian Medical College, Vellore provides sports facilities and encourages them to participate in indoor and outdoor games for their physical and mental well being.
Laboratories - The institute has modern laboratories equipped with the latest equipment and instrument that helps the students to carry out their practice sessions and get hands-on experience.
Hostel Facility: The institute provides hostel facilities to the students and has separate hostels for girls and boys. Students can avail the facilities of Wi-Fi networks, indoor games, etc.
Medical Facilities: In order to cater to the medical needs of the students the institution provides medical facilities to the students and provides them with proper medical assistance in case of a medical emergency.
