Overview

The Diploma in Medical / Pharmacy Assistant offered at GMC Jammu is a two-year paramedical programme designed to equip students with foundational knowledge and practical skills in pharmacy support services and allied medical assistance. Over the duration, students cover core subjects in pharmaceutical sciences, medication dispensing, patient counselling basics, store management, as well as hands-on training in clinical settings or hospital pharmacies. Being part of a government medical college in a major city of the Union Territory, the programme offers exposure to both urban and semi-urban healthcare settings, which allows students to gain real-world context. The institution’s affiliation with recognised health education councils ensures that the curriculum aligns with industry requirements for pharmacy assistant roles. The relatively modest duration and targeted nature of the diploma make it a feasible entry point into allied health services, offering graduates the opportunity for employment in hospitals, community pharmacies, health-care centres, and public-health programmes. The cost-effectiveness of a government institution and the structured nature of the programme are additional advantages for students seeking early career entry. Prospective students are advised to check the specific seat-matrix, fee-structure and practical training components for the current academic session.
