• Diploma in Orthopedics and Plaster Technician is associated with specialists dealing with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. An orthopedic & plaster technician is specially trained in casting and splinting immobilization techniques. These technicians work under the supervision of orthopedic surgeons and manage the care of the patients in a clinic and also assist during surgeries. Technicians of this field of medicine use both surgical and non-surgical procedures for treating congenital disorders, sports injuries and musculoskeletal trauma.The goal of the course is to address common musculoskeletal problems and impart knowledge of assisting patients with orthopedic problems through application, adjustment and removal of variety of casts and splints. The diploma educates students about plaster and synthetic cast application.The university introduces students to both invasive and non-invasive procedures in a lab setting. The curriculum covers details about different fractures and orthopedic diseases, nursing procedures like vital recordings, IM/IV/SC injection administration, oxygen therapy, nebulization, catheterization and IV infusion. Practical training includes knowledge and use of orthopedic implants, C-arm, helping in all types of open and closed reductions, performing relevant X-rays and reading them. During their internship, students assist orthopedic surgeons during surgeries.Students are also extensively trained on different plaster techniques, orthopedic surgeries, basics of CSSD and sterilization practices, biomedical waste management, and basic bio medical management of OT equipments and instruments.
