The Diploma in Optometry with Ophthalmic Technique (D.OPT) at Jhargram Government Medical College & Hospital is a structured paramedical programme designed to train competent eye care technicians to support vision care professionals. Conducted under the guidelines of the State Medical Faculty of West Bengal (SMFWB), the course integrates theoretical learning with hands‑on practical clinical training. Over two years, students are exposed to subjects such as ocular anatomy and physiology, optics, visual assessment procedures, refraction techniques, instrument handling, and basic ophthalmic procedures. After completing the academic portion, students undergo a six‑month compulsory internship, which enhances their clinical experience and prepares them for employment in eye care clinics, hospitals, optical shops, and community eye health programs. Graduates are equipped to assist ophthalmologists and optometrists in patient screening, refraction, vision testing, and basic eye health diagnostics.
